Outlook 2013 need to add email account to existing pst

Post by Charles Kenyon »

This is a cross-post from Microsoft Answers.

I had a computer crash and have had to reinstall everything on a new computer. I moved the old .pst data file to the new installation and that is the main file.
However, when I added my gmail POP3 account to it, it created a new file for that account. Thus all my email comes in without going through the rules set up in my other file or using the folders there. Every day I am spending about an hour sorting through my mail and some days I don't have that hour.

Does anyone know how to add an email account to an existing .pst file? In previous versions of Office I had no problems with this. I was using Outlook 2013 on the old computer but that was installed over Office 2010 and imported things from there. This is not an Office 365 account.

Did you set up this Gmail account as a IMAP or POP type?

If IMAP, then this is automatic as IMAP and POP are not to be in the same PST.

If POP, then you should have been asked if you wanted to use the current PST or a new one.

There don't seem to be any active email accounts in the legacy .pst.
However, when it was originally created, they were POP3 accounts.

Thank you.
I looked at https://pchelp.ricmedia.com/setup-outlo ... mail-pop3/ for instructions and it solved it. I did not realize that Outlook was being asked to set up a different kind of account. I was able to add the account.
