Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
I believe this started happening after yesterday’s latest Win 10’s update but I don’t get Outlook 2010’s hyperlinks to open anymore. There appears to be a downloadable fix from Microsoft for all versions of Windows except Win 10. How can I get the links to work again for my Outlook 2010 running Win 10?
Just found out it also won't open hyperlinks in my Excel programs either. Hope 1 fix will fix it all.
Just tested Word and hyperlinks will not open there either so apparently it is all of Office products.
Thanks

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
Hans everything I have found and these links as well refer to using IE. I am not using IE. I use FF and I am not at all sure if these solutions mentioned will work. Any thoughts?
By the way I do not get a dialog asking what I want to use to open the link. I get the one in the second link you sent where it ends with please contact your system administrator.

If you get the error message about contacting your system administrator, use the second link in my previous reply. It applies even if Internet Explorer is not your default browser.
Alternatively, see Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook.

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
I want to use this link but it was the same one I found that doesn't seem to apply to Win 10. Do you suppose it will work? In the second link above I tried using both Edge and Chrome and still got the same error message. I just uninstalled FF yesterday maybe I should try that again. I am just at a loss as to what to try next.HansV wrote:If you get the error message about contacting your system administrator, use the second link in my previous reply. Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
Have you tried editing the registry as described both in the Slipstick article and in the Microsoft article?

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
I just exported the Registry key that was described under method 2 of the last link you just sent me. I think both links are describing the same Reg fix but I am a bit apprehensive because unless I missed it neither mention this fix for Win 10. I guess I will ahve to bite the bullet and run it. Hope it doesn't mess things up worse.HansV wrote:Have you tried editing the registry as described both in the Slipstick article and in the Microsoft article?

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
Well I run the Registry hack, uninstalled, tried IE, and am now running Edge all to no avail. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
Well just found out that the Easy Fix in one of those links definitely does not work.

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
It explicitly says that the Easy Fix is for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003, so not for Windows 10.
You could reset Windows (Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery).

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
Thanks Hans but I am not up for trying to redo the OS. It just scares the heck out of me and I do not want to lose all my programs or apps as they seem to be called now.
I have found this:
I am not afraid of editing the Registry by any method but just wondering a few things in advance.
I have found this:
But I have a little concern about how to create it. If I paste the quote above into a Notepad document and save it with a ".reg" extension does that create a reg file that can be clicked on and run to edit the Registry? I am just not sure if Notepad can create a reg file. If not what program can I use to create one? Also if you look at the above where it saysWork-around to resolve this issue (found and provided by MS) is as follows
Copy everything below between the lines (but exluding those lines) to a text file with a .reg extension:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\IEXPLORE.EXE\" %1"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
my Registry key already has that value with the exception that the[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew\command
is onlyopennew
in my computer and it has an extra line. Actually I will show that value here as well:open
The[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\IEXPLORE.EXE\" %1"
"DelegateExecute"="{17FE9752-0B5A-4665-84CD-569794602F5C}"
is the line that is different and I have no idea if it is important but I do know this it was put there yesterday buy me running an exported reg file from one of my computer that works fine and this was one of the suggestions from the links above."DelegateExecute"="{17FE9752-0B5A-4665-84CD-569794602F5C}"
I am not afraid of editing the Registry by any method but just wondering a few things in advance.

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
1) You can create a text file using Notepad, and change its extension to .reg. That will make it a file that can be imported into the registry.
As long as you copy only the text
into the file, it won't hurt to double-click the file; you won't damage anything.
2) opennew is something else than open, so the .reg file would create a new entry in your registry. And that's what it is supposed to do.
As long as you copy only the text
Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\IEXPLORE.EXE\" %1"
2) opennew is something else than open, so the .reg file would create a new entry in your registry. And that's what it is supposed to do.

Re: Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook
Well nothing I tried made the slightest difference. I called MS Support and they too didn't seem very willing or able to correct the problem even after I paid for their support, which I thought was was reasonable considering the headaches this problem was giving me. Against my best wishes Office 2016 was installed and once again the hyperlinks seem to be working.
