Outlook 2010 (32-bit) Keeps crashing under Windows 8 (64-bit

I am running Outlook 2010 under Windows 8 Professional (64-bit). Occasionally, without warning, Outlook crashes when I open a message I have been reading in Preview. Windows tries to re-open the program- "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working," - (sometimes succeeding, others not) and submits an error report to MS. On first upgrade from Win 7 (64-bit) to Win 8, Outlook worked fine. The problem SEEMS to have arisen since Adobe Flash was upgraded(?) I have tried disabling all add-ins; running Outlook in "Safe" mode and even un-installing Java (as suggested elsewhere). I have also un-installed and re-installed Outlook. All to no avail.

It seems mfc90u.dll is the source of the problem(?)
