Add events to calendar with attachment

Post by Rudi »

Hi,

I have a question about creating automatic events in a calendar similar to the option in Outlook to add holidays on the calendar. Is there a way to send multiple recipients an attachment (or something) that can add a fixed list of events to their calendars by simply responding to an attachment?

Any ideas?

Is this intended for a Microsoft Exchange environment, or for people using Outlook as a stand-alone e-mail program?
Best wishes,
Hans

I assume Exchange...but it can be different versions of Outlook, from 2003 through to 2010.

On scanning the web, I see various sites that offer these types of files that will add auto events to the calendar. Some are in CSV format, others in PST format. The problem is more how do these events integrate into Outlooks calendar without the user manually having to import it. It must be as automated as possible. This is where I need assistance/guidance.

You can send meeting requests, of course, but that will make you the organizer of the meeting(s), which may not be what you want.

Or you can set up a separate calendar for this purpose, and send it (everything or a specific date range) as attachment by e-mail - see Outlook 2010: Send Calendar Events via Email. (I wouldn't use your default calendar for this - you'd send all your appointments)
Best wishes,
Hans

That sounds like a fairly easy way to distribute a series of events. Also see Microsoft Outlook Holiday Issues for other options.

Your emailing of a separate calendar is an interesting alternating that is worth experimenting with. I must test to see if one double clicks on the file that it will add all the events contained.

Thanks for your input... I'll test these approaches.
Cheers!!
