Pop Up Blocker

Post by BobH »

Recently I've been plagued with pop up windows in Firefox 62.0.3. The most irritating of them are persistent videos without the means to dismiss them.

Can anyone recommend a Firefox add-on pop up blocker that gives good results?

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

I use uBlock Origin in combination with NoScript.

I use uBlock Origin with Ghostery, but the latter is more for ad blocking rather than popups.

Thank you, Gentlemen!

I have these add-ons installed . . . Are there others you would recommend?

Hi Bob.
Even though one says "Chrome", these are all functional for FF, right?

Cheers

I would have thought that having both Adblock and uBlock Origin was unnecessary, since they perform more-or-less the same function. uBlock Origin appears better thought-of nowadays.

Wot John said, I wouldn't have both Adblock AND ublock both installed.

My understanding was that until Mozilla changed the way FF add-ons worked, i.e. pre-FF 'Quantum', Adblock Plus was the ad-blocker of choice. Since then though uBlock Origin has become the go-to adblocker. My experience is that uBlock Origin is more effective and has less impact on performance.

I disabled Ad Block. We shall see if there is any effect.

I have noticed that I can no longer add smilies by clicking them. Is this an effect, I wonder.

Don't think so, Bob. Still using FF? I have ad-block disabled also and use Ublock and can click on smilies OK.

I just discovered that I cannot insert smilies on a different forum. (I'm not disloyal!!!! REALLY!!!)

I think I'll uninstall and download a fresh copy of FF to see if anything changes.

OK. After uninstalling and downloading and installing a fresh copy of Firefox, I still cannot insert a smilie. I installed NoScript and uBlock Origin before browsing.

I also noticed the Pop Up Blocker hyperlink at upper left below the bar that shows the board linkages. I took a screenshot of it and saved it. I tried to add it to this post but could not. The image file appears but I cannot make the 'place inline' function work.

Seems I was dead wrong. Although I clicked the Place Inline button, the markup didn't appear but when I submitted the page, the image shows up. Still cannot add smilies.

Am I in Wonderland? Was that Alice (b. Toklas) I just saw? Never mind. The Red Queen is calling . . .

Make sure that you set Eileen's Lounge to Trusted in NoScript.
