Changing Browser web page fonts (Firefox, but possibly others)

Post by ChrisGreaves »

I am old. An ophthalmologist visits every two years to chat with the local optometrist and they cut me new spectacles. In self-defence I take in small pill bottles and instructions on how to install thermostats as acceptance tests. I am not stupid.

I am up-to-date with Firefox 135.0.1. Help About tells me so.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that more and more web sites whisper in grey font on a white background, which I find more difficult to read than black on white.
I know about <Ctrl>+<Plus> to increase the font size, but that just shifts the burden of reading to keyboard skills such as scrolling down more pages to find what I need.

I can think of at least six other members of Eileen's Lounge who would love a simple adjustment, made one time, to force the font colour, regardless of the background, to switch to absolute black.

In the example shown above, a non-trivial issue for me, I would like to use (say) Ctrl+<key>, or some combination of Ctrl/Alt/Shift+<key> to switch the font to black, something like this:-

When I say one-time, it could be a transient change on demand for a web page, the decision being taken by the user. (Today I am sitting in bright, warm sunshine which aggravates the problem), or it could be a global change that forces ALL web page text to black font, with the special shortcut key to inhibit the change when switching to black just makes things worse.

I would say that this is part of a larger problem. It is at least a year since I have seen a web page rendered in dark bklue on a dark red background, but by 2pm this day, such a web page will pop up ...
Thanks, Chris

I don't know about a shortcut, but:
Menu > Settings > General > Colors section > click Manage Colors.
Select your colors and specify that they will always override the colors specified by the page.

Thank you, Hans. There seem to be some auxiliary changes, but I can get used to them faster than I have ever got used to grey font!
Cheers, Chris
P.S. Too, I can now <Ctrl>+<-> back to more text per screen :clapping: :clapping: C

The rest of you, however, will just have to get used to what ever coloured fonts I can think of using!
Cheers, Chris
