Does it make any difference performance-wise to close a bookmark before opening another?
Thank you

Re: Bookmark toolbar
First, I'm no expert on this subject. All I can tell you is that I generally keep a bunch of bookmarks in the bookmarks toobar and frequently have multiples open concurrently. My response times seem to be unaffected by the number of bookmarks I have open concurrently. My guess is that is because the open bookmarks take up only space needed to keep URLs in memory and not their content.

Re: Bookmark toolbar
When I was working I had dozens and dozens of bookmarks and I could easily end up with six or more of them open in tabs Firefox at a time. Sometimes I'd 'tear off' some of those tabs to create a second instance of Firefox so I could compare tabs side by side on two monitors. I never noticed any sort of performance slowdown when working like that.
In other words, the answer to your question is, no, not in my experience.

Re: Bookmark toolbar
Hi Uncle, in LIghtweight Browser required for a trial run I described problems I was experiencing on an old Win 7 DELL laptop.
I now believe that that laptop was under-powered for the load that I was imposing.
My start-of-day boot sequence was to load a half dozen programs - browser, eMail client, data sheet, ... and then open in tabs over a dozen news sources.
Sluggish isn't the word.
I split my autoexec.bat file with a PAUSE statement immediately after the line that loaded Firefox.
My daily routine thus became
(1) Boot the computer
(2) Read all the newspapers and forums
(3) Tap <Enter> to continue the boot sequence
(4) Key in data, respond to emails and so on.
My life became better.
Now:-
I was using a seriously under-powered system for today's loads, markedly different from my load in 2012.
I was using a version of Firefox reduced to its environment and, i think, not as clever as the most recent version of Firefox.
I have a few questions:
(a) What is your system? how much RAM? SSD or HDD? Version of Windows?
(b) Have you noticed a terrible slow-down in response times?
(c) Generally, might you tell us why you posed the original question? (I know that you might have asked because you were contemplating opening hundreds of tabs for some reason)
I agree with responses that appear above this post; most members of Eileen's Lounge are not living on old equipment such as I treasure!

Thanks, Chris
