Unexpected results in Firefox 126.0 after Windows Updates

Post by John Gray »

I allowed Windows Updates to update this morning, following which
if I click on the address bar I get a window of (seven) recent links (as text) on top of the address bar, and apparently extending above the top of the screen.
.
Click on address bar.jpg
.
Has anyone noticed anything similar, please?

I installed Windows updates to Windows 11 yesterday, and updated Firefox to version 126.0, but the drop-down displays normally. Does the problem persist after rebooting?
Best wishes,
Hans

Sadly, yes it did. Also when I terminated all the tabs from Firefox to get it to close, then restarted it again.

Not being able to type anything in the address box is a real pain!

My FF updated to v126 a few mins ago. I'm not seeing what you're seeing. However:
1) The May Win 11 Pro updates won't land on my laptop until about 25 May.
2) I don't see the orange 'Firefox' button that's in the top tight of your screen shot.
3) I have the Bookmarks toolbar visible, below the Address bar.

What happens if you run FF in full screen (F11)?

That orange FF button, is that not an ancient feature? Which suggests you have some sort of 'classic theme restorer' add-on installed. If that's correct, what happens if you disable that add-on?

I've no idea where that orange FF button came from! And I forgot to mention that I was on Windows 10.

After quite a lot of unsuccessful and annoying faffing around :hairout: , I disabled my ancient version of "Custom CSS tweaks for Firefox" (which was only used to tighten up menu lines), and things returned to 'normal' with the original widely-spaced menu items, and a general washed-out appearance. Critically, the ability to type within the address bar returned!

Thanks for suggestions and general sympathy! :thankyou:

If I've found the correct add-on, then the latest version was released on 12 April 2024:
    https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/releases
What happens if you try this version?
