Cannot open Reports in Design View

Windows XP/Access 2003

I am attempting to open Access reports in Design View, but when I click on Design, or Right Click and select Design View, nothing happens.

I can open tables and queries in Design, just not the reports.

I am on a network, and everything else in Office (as far as I know) works fine. I have rebooted and still nothing.

Is there a patch or hotfix for this?

OK - found an answer through google.

I had changed my default printer to one nearer my desk. When I switched the default printer back to the original printer, all was fine.

Nice that it worked, but can anyone tell me why?

What if I need to change default printers? What do I need to do to allow me to open reports in Design View?

If you open one of the problem reports in design view, select File | Page Setup... and activate the Page tab, has the report been set up to use the Default printer, or to use a specific printer?

It is set for Default Printer.

Does the printer you temporarily switched to have a very different paper format or margins than the original one?

No. Actually, the person next to me set the other printer as default, and it worked fine. So I can now narrow it down to it being my machine or settings.

I uninstalled the printer, rebooted, installed it, and now I get the hourglass for 1 second, but the report still does not open in Design View or Preview.
I am stumped.
