meaning of criteria

I have a In (47,49) in one of my queries. The query works with no problems but what does ln mean in access terms?

WHERE X IN (47, 49)
is the same as
WHERE X = 47 OR X = 49

The query will return all records for which the field that has the In (47,49) criteria is equal to either 47 or 49.
It is equivalent to writing

47 Or 49

in the Criteria line, but it is shorter, especially if you want to specify more values.
