Access 2007 Error Message

Post by JudyJones »

I have attached a striped down copy of a database that works fine in Access 2002. However when it is opened in 2007, a location is selected, and the View Records command button is clicked the following error message appears: "The Microsoft Access database engine could not find the object '1'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and path name correctly."

I can manually select the form and it opens just fine in 2007 but will not open from the command button. The database is actually a frontend/backend cofiguration but I made it all into one file for the purpose of attaching it.

Does anyone know what needs to be changed to allow this form to display correctly from the command button?

The "View Records" button works fine for me in Access 2007 SP2, whichever location I select. Have you tested it in the stripped-down version yourself?

Yes, I tested it out in the stripped down version. I don't think I have the SP2 update. Where does this information appear.

Click the Office button in the upper left corner of the Access application window.
Click Access Options.
Click Resources in the navigation pane on the left hand side.
The installed version will be displayed at the bottom of the dialog:

I do not have SP2. Is there an SP1 that has to be run first. If not I will try the SP2 update to see if that fixes the problem.

In itself, it is a good idea to update, if you have permission to do so. The easiest way is to go to Microsoft Update and to click Custom after the initial check; it will offer the updates that are relevant to your setup for both Windows and Office.

But first, try this:
- Open the query qrySpecificLocNum in design view.
- Scroll to the right until you see the RefNum column.
- Change the condition for this column (in the Criteria row) from

[Forms]![frmSelectLocation]![HoldLoc]

to

[Forms]![frmSelectLocation]![Combo0]

- Close and save the query.
- See if the View Records button now works correctly.
Best wishes,
Hans

I tried changing the criteria as you suggested but I get the same error message. It blows my mind that I can open the form by clicking on the form but not through the command button. The next step is to check with our help desk people about getting the SP2 installed. I'll let you know if this helps.

I just wanted to let you know that downloading the SP2 service pack fixed my problem.
