Importing issue

Post by bknight »

I have a Db that I import daily from a spreadsheet. There is a text field that has problems importing data in the form 119'11. Evertime I import a spreadsheet with such data I get a autocorrect save failure error table. What is unique to that piece of data that it won't import?

View the save error table and it will tell you what the records are and what the error is.

Can you discover a pattern when you compare the values that were refused to the values that were imported without error?

These were the only alpha data that were not imported. No pattern other than an apostrophe in it.

Were any values containing an apostrophe imported correctly?

Thanks. How do you import the data? Using the Access interface or using VBA? If the latter, what does the code look like?

Hans

Access interface. This is what the error table looks like same error on 11 Jun. I don't know if this helps

Try the following:
- Click the big Office button on the left of the ribbon.
- Select 'Access Options'.
- Select 'Current Database' in the navigation pane.
- Scroll down to the 'Name AutoCorrect Options' section.
- Clear the check box 'Track name AutoCorrect info'.
- Click OK.

Then try importing one of those Excel sheets.
Best wishes,
Hans

Well since we stopped checking that issue it didn't show again, but the question that I still have is why Access had issues importing that form of data. Is this behavior a n issue with 2007?

Apparently Access tries, but fails to AutoCorrect values that contain an apostrophe. This is a bug. When you disable AutoCorrect, Access doesn't try it anymore so the problem doesn't occur.

I'll refresh to current operations. Currently I have three Dbs. that all contain similar data but not exact. Two subsets with different criteria and one full set. Now the smaller subsets both input correctly text that contains an apostrophe and full set that does not input the text with an apostrophe, go figure.

Fixed that or you.
