Simple excel task issue

There are a couple of things I have not yet figured out in Excel 7.

How do I lasso several drawing objects. In previous versions, I could quickly change the selection mode via an arrow on drawing toolbar. I have not found that yet in 2007.

I used to be able to tear off the drawing toolbar, leaving the toolbar constantly open, for quick access while drawing. Can I get the same or similar functionality in 2007?

On the far right of the Home tab of the ribbon, click Find and Select > Select Objects. You can now lasso objects. Click Find and Select > Select Objects again to turn selection mode off, or just press Esc.

Unfortunately, there is no way to tear off palettes in Excel 2007, the ribbon is very inflexible.
