Using Excel 2010 I see this message if I try to drag the contents of a cell to a new location. After I click OK, the drag and drop works OK.
Added later: It seems this problem has been around for quite a while. Googling it reveals no real solution, other than finding other programs that might be running that monitor the clipboard.

I aassume that you found the suggestions in Fix for Cannont Empty the Clipboard in Office and solution for "cannot empty the clipboard".

Yes thanks...I have seen those.
I get the impression the issue has been around with many versions of Excel. On this computer, it occurs with Excel 2010 but not with 2007.
