Hi there
I should know this, but I seem to miss the most obvious...
I have 4 columns and I want to identify the cheaper, almost cheapest etc... I will probably format with the cell colour..
So green for the lowest number
orange for the next one
red for the next one
and white (no formatting) for the dearest...
Thanks for any help..

Re: Conditional formatting
Which version of Excel are you using? Conditional formatting changed a lot in Excel 2007 compared to earlier versions.
Best wishes,

Re: Conditional formatting
Let's say that the data are in A2:D100 (with perhaps column headings in row 1).
Select A2:D100; A2 should be the active cell within the selection.
Select Format | Conditional Formatting...
Select Formula Is from the first dropdown.
Enter the following formula in the box next to it, taking care to use the $ exactly as indicated:
=A2=SMALL($A2:$D2,1)
Click Format..., activate the Fill tab, and select Green, then click OK.
Click Add >>.
Select Formula Is from the first dropdown.
Enter the following formula in the box next to it:
=A2=SMALL($A2:$D2,2)
Click Format..., activate the Fill tab, and select Orange, then click OK.
Click Add >>.
Select Formula Is from the first dropdown.
Enter the following formula in the box next to it:
=A2=SMALL($A2:$D2,3)
Click Format..., activate the Fill tab, and select Green, then click OK.
Click OK to close the Conditional Formatting dialog.
