I have a spread sheet where leading zeros are significant - transit / routing numbers and account numbers for use in banking.
It seems to me that in the past I used a "custom" data type to force leading zeros to show up. I can't seem to find the mask I used.
Any ideas are appreciated

Re: leading zeros - EXCEL 2003
To display leading 0's, you must either force the number to read as text by using the single apostrophe ( ' ) or use a custom number format with 0's (as many as to determine the number of leading 0's.)
Text Version: Enter the code/number by typing an apostrophe: ie: '000123 (Please note that you cannot calculate with numbers entered like this.)
Custom Format Version: Select the range where the numbers are and open the custom number format dialog. Enter a format like: 000000. (For a 3 digit number, this will display as 000123.)
