Is there a way to include numbers, letters, symbols in the numbering section of numbered or bulleted styles when executing a search in Word? At present, Word is only finding the text to the right of the number or bullet. For example, if I search for every instance of "A" in the following,
A. Sample text sample text sample text
Word only finds the instances of "a' to the right of the number "A."
If I search for "1" in:
1. Sample text sample text sample text
No item is found.

Re: Search within bullets
Numbers and bullets are paragraph formatting, not part of the text, so you can't search for them.

You could convert the document to PDF and then search the PDF file.

Another option:
- Create a copy of the document (or make sure that you don't save the document after the following steps).
- Press Alt+F11, then Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window in the Visual Basic Editor.
- Type the following line, then press Enter:
ActiveDocument.ConvertNumbersToText
- Switch back to Word. Bullets and numbering have been converted to searchable plain text.
