French Dictonary - Word 2003 - Windows XP

Post by Graeme »

Could anyone please tell me why my dictonary keeps switching to French? It does not affect the whole document and appears to be ramdom. If I move the cursor to a different point in the document the dictonary changes back to English (UK).

Example attached.

Do you have "Detect language automatically" turned on in Tools | Language | Set Language...? If so, try turning it off.

"Rectifier" and "Transformer" are valid French verbs, meaning "to rectify" and "to transform", so automatic language detection may erroneously switch to French at that point.
Best wishes,
Hans

With the cursor on the end of PMES under the source heading, the language is english.

If I move the cursor one to the right, to the left of 750V under the Rating heading, the language changes to French! The word Rectifier appears either side of the change point.

Detect language automatically is turned off.

It's an odd one!

And I've just noticed that the French thing happens only in that particular table in the document. could it be that this table was pasted into the document from another document that was originally created in a French version of Word?

It's possible that the table originated in a French document.

You could select the entire document (Ctrl+A) or that specific table, then select Tools | Language | Set Language..., select English (U.K.) and click OK.
Best wishes,
Hans

That seems to have sorted it.

Thank you Hans
