In Word 2007 when I want to make a mail-merge link and use an existing file as the data source the File | Open dialog that is presented defaults to a folder called 'My Data sources' folder under 'My Documents'. I want it to default to a network folder but as yet I've not found the option I need to tweak to change this behaviour.
Any clues anyone?

Re: default folder for 'my data sources'
After further Googling... it seems this (i.e. setting this default location to a new drive) can't be done.
All you CAN do is modify the default folder location to something else ALONG THE SAME PATH AS 'My Documents' via a reg. hack:

A sensible workaround seems to be to put a shortcut to your desired default location inside the unchangable default location:

Re: default folder for 'my data sources'
You can only change the default to another subfolder of My Documents, so that won't help.
I would create a shortcut to the network folder in My Data Sources. That way, you can easily open the network folder:
Another option is to add the network folder to the My Places bar on the left hand side of the dialog.
