Page Numbering in Footer

Post by jstevens »

I am using Word 2013 and have a challenge with page numbering in a footer. The page number jumps from 37 to 48 and I don't understand how to get it back in sequence. When I double-click at the bottom of the page to access the footer I don't see the "Same as Previous" popup.

Your suggestions are appreciated.
Regards,
John

Have you tried deleting the pg numbers and inserting them afresh in the first page of your document?

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.

Try this:
- Switch to Draft view (using the Draft button on the View tab of the ribbon)
- If you don't already show non-printing characters, press Ctrl+Shift+8.
- What do you see at the end of page 37? A bunch of section ends perhaps?
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks. One section break is not enough to explain the jump.

What happens if you click to highlight 'Same as previous'?

On that page "Same as previous" is not there.

'Same as previous' is only absent in the first section. It must be available in all subsequent sections.

If you right click the number and choose Format Numbering, can you force it to continue from the previous section?

Page numbering is intimately connected with Sections and with headers and footers. Each section has three headers and three footers. A single page in Word can have multiple sections. This is especially prevalent in documents converted from other formats.
