I know that this topic has been canvassed before, but I haven't been able to find the answer.
How do I get Windows Explorer to open showing just my drives on the left hand side instead of my folders and desktop?

A shortcut with target
explorer.exe /e
probably comes nearest. I don't think you can get rid of the desktop.

I don't know about Win 7 or Win Vista but in Win XP, TweakUI (I think) lets me remove every icon from my desktop, including the Recycle bin etc.HansV wrote:... I don't think you can get rid of the desktop.
Now Hans, I'm sure you know this (grin), so I'm waiting to learn how I mis-interpreted your comment.

If I understand the original question correctly, it is not about removing icons from the desktop, but about the left hand pane of Windows Explorer.
Best wishes,

You may already know this, but here's some scoop from MS. There are probably other pages as well: Windows Explorer Command-Line Optionsjohbot wrote:I know that this topic has been canvassed before, but I haven't been able to find the answer.

Also, your question may mean that you're looking for something to code somewhere, but just in case, the Win-E keyboard command comes pretty doggone close to what you asked.
