I use Everything for a fast search by file name
I use FileSearchy for a fast search by file contents.
I use the F3/search box of Windows File Explorer to search for files BY NAME or EXTENT local to a sub-folder tree.
I believe that this image from drive C properties asks that file contents NOT be indexed.
I don't need Windows Explorer ever to be bothered by file contents.
My good friend FileSearchy will do that for me. (and more!)
But this screen from the Indexing hoo-hah (Control Panel, ... Advanced) seems to indicate that Indexing will be taking place on a gazillion files identified by extent regardless of other settings.
What am I missing here?
In a perfect world I would expect the first setting "( do not) Allow files ..." to check off, or at least disable the check-boxes in the second screen.
I all too often spend ten seconds or more staring at a green progress bar creep across the top of my Windows File explorer window.
I'd give a lot to go back to Win3.1 Explorer right now ...
Thanks for any explications or explanations.

Why don't you the advance search of Everything, to find a word or phrase within a file?

Because it doesn't exist in the version I have installed.DaveA wrote:Why don't you the advance search of Everything, to find a word or phrase within a file?
I am using 1.3.4.686 but I see that 1.4.1.877 is available.
You are using ______?
Thanks
Chris
P.S. I suspect that even the latest version of Everything won't help me understand Win7HP's attitude to file contents (grin!)
