Look here Taskbar Start Menu to restore the Quick Launch Taskbar Item.

Re: Reduce height of taskbar
I don't even have Win 7 yet, so I don't know whether I like the new version (of Quick Start) better than the current.
But the reason I am getting Win 7 is that I need to be familiar with it. I work freelance, and I find myself sitting in front of a lot of other people's computers.
So if I modify my win 7 so it does not look and work the same as as the standard installation I defeat the purpose of the exercise.

Same problem when one does hack their Windows 7 machine and then ask another check things out and things just are not where they should be.
