Windows 7 - Hidden Updates

Post by hlewton »

I keep hiding the update KB3035583, the one that puts the Win 10 update notice in the systray and somehow it always seems to show up as an "Important Update." How does this happen and how can I stop it from being unhidden in the future?

Thanks.
Regards,
hlewton

This happens because Microsoft keeps on re-releasing this update. Since the re-release has a more recent date than the one you have hidden, it is displayed again.

You might install and run GWX Control Panel from Ultimate Outsider (free). It lets you disable the Windows 10 upgrade notifications entirely. You can enable them later if you wish, of course.

See Using GWX Control Panel to Permanently Remove the 'Get Windows 10' Icon for instructions.
Best wishes,
Hans

If you use GWX Control Panel you may need to re-run it periodically. If Microsoft re-releases fixes the criteria used may change or something gets reset so GWX CP needs to be re-run.

I've hidden it again. Hopefully it will stay hidden for a few weeks now...

Yes, it is, we just keep ignoring it and click it to close the nag screen.
We are only get it on a restart as we normally have the machines on 7/24.

Just don't fight it.

I ignored it by updating all my Win 7 machines to Win 10. Not sure how much I like Win 10 yet but there are some differences that I find annoying. However, they are not enough to have me revert back to Win 7.
