Windows Update failures

Post by RonH »

Something I have been noticing over recent weeks is failure of Update download and/or install. Its irregular, does not apply to all updates and usually can be solved some hours later by trying again. I have from time to time also used the Microsoft Windows Update Diagnostic tool to fix some issues.

Over many years of using Windows, this is the first time I can recall such a regular batch of 'failures' Are MS setting up for Windows 7 to 10

Do you get an error message when an update fails? If so, write down the error number next time it happens and report it here - it might shed some light on the cause.
Best wishes,
Hans

Will check next time Hans, Google the code to see what MS say and also post here.
Some weeks ago one of the failure codes led me to the Update Diagnostic which is how I became aware that it even existed!
Hope you are watching the exciting cycling race on today :hairout:

What else could it be
Even though I am a well retired senior citizen I still enjoy the efforts of others ... however crazy they may be to enjoy these bone shaking cobble stones.

We have some streets with cobblestones in the historic center of Leiden. Even though they're only short stretches, I avoid them whenever possible when I ride my bicycle. I wouldn't want to ride on cobblestones full-speed on a racing bicycle!

Update failure again ... a Windows Defender update.
First attempt update failed ... its size was small
2nd attempt update succeeded ... but the same update suddenly was 6+ MB in size, much larger. This is the information I captured ... is there a way to determine which prog may be interfering with the update installation?

It might be Windows Defender itself, but it's not easy to know for sure. I wouldn't worry much about this error - just try again.

Hei Hans ... hope you enjoyed the Dutch cycling today :fanfare:
I will keep a check on failures and see if I get any with different error codes.

I've seen Windows Update fail to install a MSE update that I asked it to install because MES was itself busy downloading and applying the update.

I would re-comment that its only of very recent times that I have ever had MS update failures. Are MS getting sloppy and lacking the same passion that made them great

I must have been the lucky one because I do read Woody and touch wood  I ain't suffered from the problems he describes... until now maybe.
Given the millions of Windows users I often wonder if most of the issues are because we love to tweak our toys!
