Great Sync Tool

Post by agibsonsw »

Hello.

I wanted to synchronise my Documents folder with my USB pen(s). The Vista Sync Centre application is useless for this. It couldn't locate my pen drive
and was only offering to sync music, not files/ folders.

I found this great app called Sync Toy 2.1, link below, which is available as a free download via microsoft.

Andy. (I hope it's not inappropriate to recommend a nice app?)

That's fine, especially since it's free - it's not as if you're advertising a commercial product.
Best wishes,
Hans

Synctoy is a nice little tool, I use it frequently, and recommend it.

Karen's Replicator meets all my synchronizing needs, and doesn't need .Net (which I think the Sync Tool does). Has anybody compared these two?

I did try using Sync Toy, but it failed when files are in SharePoint, so could not actually synchronize half my data.

The response I received from the SyncToy maintainers was:
To those of you who are syncing to Sharepoint - we know we have a problem and will be fixing it in our next release. And I am afraid there is no workaround available to sync upto the sharepoint server.
This was in 2008 and we haven't had a release that works with SharePoint yet.
