safe mode and anti virus

is the anti virus programme running if you start a PC in safe mode? trying to identify a problem I'm having on my own before asking on here

I don't think that the realtime protection component of your anti-virus program is started in safe mode - Windows only starts the essential parts of the operating system. You should be able to start a scan though.

Not only would I start a manual scan with the AV app, I would start a manual scan with MalwareBytes antimalware to check for malware.
