Free Program for creating and reading plain text documents

Post by BillW »

Please tell me about any free programs that are used to write plain text documents. Are there advantages and disadvantages?

Thanks,
BillW

For simple documents, I use Notepad - it comes with Windows and is very easy to use.

If I want to create or edit stuff like source code, I use Notepad++. It is extremely powerful and still easy to use. And it's :free:

Thanks Hans and Stuck and John for reminding me about Notepad! Now I remember using it in the distant past!

Wordpad is more user friendly.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

Wordpad can indeed create and edit plain text files, as can Microsoft Word.
But the .docx format is not plain text, though.
Best wishes,
Hans
