Error 503

Post by jaystarter »

I usually drop in to see the old place .....windows secrets forum.
For the past few days I cant reach the site either in Firefox or IE11 I get the Error 503 Backend fetch failed. (screen shot)
It must be my end as a search on Google doesn't throw up any results and I imagine there would be a lot of comments if it was a general thing.
Not that I miss the posts and replies over there..... but any ideas please?

I heard that Penton (the new owners) are aware of the problem. They will have to solve the problem - the day-to-day admins don't have the means to do that.
Best wishes,
Hans

They have forgotten to varnish the cache server.
Now the guru will have to meditate.

The newest owners are Informa PLC located in London England. A contact there has said they have multiple web sites currently affected and it is an "all hands on deck" situation.

Thanks, Joe. Let's hope they'll be able to repair it - currently windowssecrets.com doesn't load at all anymore....

(The domain will expire in less than a week; guess they'll have try to remember the secret handshake if they want to keep it going.)

Guru meditation comes from the good old days when the Commodore Amiga was king. I saw many of those in the late 80's...

Does anyone think it is significant that the Windows Secrets Twitter feed (which I have just come across) says absolutely nothing about the loss of the main site/forums? (last Tweet on 12 Feb...)

The last message on their Twitter feed is from the 12th of February, the last day the site was available. I have no idea whether that is significant or not.

Sorry, Hans, I must have added the bit about 12 Feb when you were typing something v. similar!

The Windows Secrets website is back, without any explanation of the situation. The WS Lounge however, has an invalid certificate and even if you ignore that, you end up on a 404 page...
