PC to CD
Hi Folks,
I have recently burned a .flac file to a cd using Winamp. I have done this without trouble in the past to play in my car as radio reception in my locale is terrible.
This time the volume of playback is terrible, (I am not going deaf) is their anyway to do it to increase playback volume?
The same file plays great on my Desktop PC in Winamp.

Re: PC to CD
Hey George,
I cannot confirm if this will work or not, but how about testing the Replay Gain setting.
In the third image on the website below, you will see a slide bar to adjust the audio level for the Replay Gain. Not only will it level out sound across multiple tracks, but it seems you can control the overall volume using that slider. Be careful not to make it too much else you'll end up distorting the tracks volume.
See here.

Re: PC to CD
Hi Rudi,
since posting, I have been experimenting with Audacity. I have learned how to import the .flac file and export it as .mp3.
I did notice a difference in the display, .flac files were displayed smaller than in the sample image below.
When I played back the 2 files, in Winamp & Media Player Classic Home Cinema there was no difference in the volume.
Will try burning the .mp3 files to CD when I renew my stock.

Re: PC to CD
BTW: I could recommend a different app to burn your CD's. My preference is to use CDBurnerXP. It's been around for years and I've never had any burn issues with this app across many windows versions. On the other hand I've always felt that WinAmp is a complicated and bloated media app with a lot of "crossed wires".

Rudi

Re: PC to CD
Winamp was one of my first purchases, and have used it without any trouble. I have burned over 100 CD'S.

Re: PC to CD
Hi Rudi, I have used the ReplayGain feature and there is a slight volume increase but only when played in Winamp.
Will try using Audacity later, it can burn a CD.

Re: PC to CD
Hi Rudi, I missread the Audacity tutorial, it cant burn to a CD.
I will now use the Audacity method to record all my file, one track at a time.

Re: PC to CD
You could try CDBurnerXP and burn the whole CD in one go?
Maybe the sound will be normal with this app?

Re: PC to CD
Maybe so, but I still have to increase the volume and will have to be done as above.
P.S. How do I add a link as you do?

Re: PC to CD
Hi Folks,
these are the files I have been editing to increase the volume when burned to a CD.
I had to do them one by one to get the best result. On burning them to a CD, there was no change in volume level.

Re: PC to CD
Sorry for all your troubles with this?! (Your really getting flak from these .flac files!)
Is it not possible to convert the .flac format to .mp3.
Maybe the conversion will boost the sound.

Re: PC to CD
Hi Rudi, on using Audacity, I had to play the files one by one and was able to save them as .mp3 plus other formats.
Burning any format to a CD gives a .cda or words to that effect. More later.
