Autorun program?
Wasn't there another popular utility ( besides Autoruns ) that showed a detailed look at just was starting at startup?
I have been using Autorun for some time now but the latest versions seem to be kind of "clunky." lately. For example it shows some files that appear as file not found which you could disable but if I tried to delete the entry, it bombs out immediately, every time. I downloaded a fresh copy but it does the same thing/ Time for a change?

NirSoft's WhatInStartup is a somewhat simpler and friendlier utility.
CCleaner also lets you view and manage autostart applications, in Tools > Startup.
Both are free.

Both are free.

Re: Autorun program?
By the way, have you tried running AutoRuns as Administrator?

You must run Autoruns with "Run as Administrator" to delete registry entries.

Re: Autorun program?
I use Winpatrol Plus which shows, among other things, autoruns and provides info, as well as alerting you whenever anything wants to add or remove itself to/from autoruns. Highly recommended, been using it for years.
Cheers, Claude.

Yes. tried runs as Admin but with same results. Immediate stop. I'll give your suggestion a try, Claude.

I've never seen Autoruns stop like that. Which version of Autoruns do you have?

I was going to suggest WinPatrol too. (Woof woof!)

Ver 13.7. Seems to be the latest one.JoeP wrote:I've never seen Autoruns stop like that. Which version of Autoruns do you have?
Hans's suggestion of Whatsinstartup seems not much more than msconfig gives you. Too basic.
It would seem that if Autoruns shows a file not found, you could at least be able to delete that entry? It DID have that capability in earlier versions.

Re: Autorun program?
Looks like you have to have the PLUS ( not free ) version, in order to do most of the detailed work?Claude wrote:I use Winpatrol Plus which shows, among other things, autoruns and provides info, as well as alerting you whenever anything wants to add or remove itself to/from autoruns. Try downloading Autoruns again. With "Run as Administrator", I'm able to delete registry entries.

Re: Autorun program?
I can delete reg entries also. What I can't delete are entries that show as "file not found" so if the file can't be found, it can't delete them.JoeP wrote:Try downloading Autoruns again. With "Run as Administrator", I'm able to delete registry entries.
I want to be able to delete the file not found ENTRY from Autoruns?

Re: Autorun program?
That's what I meant. Those are registry entries for which Autoruns can not find the target program. I am able to delete those types of entries using Autoruns when I execute Autoruns with "Run as Administrator".

Re: Autorun program?
Just checked my version 11.0. I run it direct, as a user with admin privileges, and have no problem removing "File not found" entries, just by hitting the Del key then confirming.

Re: Autorun program?
Tried it once again with the same results......bombs out? Admin or no admin.
I think there is some quirk/bug in my copy. I'm going to try installing AR with Advanced Uninstaller, then reinstall it from scratch.

Re: Autorun program?
Autoruns does not require installation. Just download from Autoruns and run it.
