Keyboard shortcut
It is well known that -with several files open & minimised to the taskbar, hitting the Atl + Tab key together shows them side by side on the screen from where they can be selected with the L & R arrow keys but this one might not be so well known. With several files open but minimised to the taskbar if one desires to open the one e.g. nearest to the "Start" tab, hitting the windows key together with the number 1 key does the trick. The same goes for the second, third, fourth etc. Cheers Dave.

Re: Keyboard shortcut
Thanks for this tip, Dave.
I have moved this thread from the Word forum to the Windows General forum since it is not specific to Microsoft Word, but a general Windows feature.

Re: Keyboard shortcut
Hi Dave,
Shortcuts are great to learn and know... To add to your post;
If one uses ONLY the ALT+Tab keys, you need to keep ALT pressed down and while it is down you can press and release the Tab key to toggle through the open windows. If you prefer to use the L & R arrow keys without having to hold down the ALT key continually, you can start the process by pressing the combo: ALT + CTRL + Tab. When you pressed this combo the window switcher stays up on the screen and you can release all the keyboard buttons. You can then toggle the open windows by using either Tab or the L & R arrows, selecting Enter when you have the window you want selected, or Escape to escape the process.
If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, another option for this task is available; called Flip View (a kind of Rolodex-style window selector as in the image below). To use this view to toggle windows, simply press WIN + Tab (hold down WIN and press and release Tab continually).
BTW: The same advice as above to keep Flip View active and use the L & R arrows to flip through the windows without needing to keep WIN down also applies:
Use WIN + CTRL + Tab

Keyboard shortcut: “hitting the windows key together with the number 1 key” and “press WIN + Tab (hold down WIN and press and release Tab continually).” Excellent. Almost as good as a two-litre brick of Chapman’s ice-cream.
Rudi: I got the Rolodex fine, and it rolled through several Word documents and Excel workbooks, Windows Explorer, Desktop, but did NOT include Firefox in its set. Perhaps it rolodexes only tru-blue Windows products?

That does not sound right? It should work on any open window.ChrisGreaves wrote:Rudi: I got the Rolodex fine, and it rolled through several Word documents and Excel workbooks, Windows Explorer, Desktop, but did NOT include Firefox in its set. Perhaps it rolodexes only tru-blue Windows products?
I don't have FF so I cannot confirm. Perhaps another lounger could.

Now I see FF!Rudi wrote:That does not sound right? It should work on any open window.
I suspect it may be a feature that is highly dependent on the state of mind of the user :mea culpa:
Cheers

That doesn't look like an FF Chris, it look more like a Blue Jay.
