Charles Messier was a comet hunter and he compiled a list of 110 astronomical objects that looked a bit like comets but were not comets. So a fun project for an astronomer is to image the Messier Objects. I've done 65 of them and listed them here in my Messier Gallery
The Gallery images can be listed by post date, image file name, number of views, etc. I would like to list them by their Messier number (file name) but when I do this the order is M1, M10, M100, M101.
I know this has been a problem since the days of DOS but has anyone created a solution yet?

The sort is alphanumerical. You'd have to name them M001, M002, ..., M010, M011, ..., M100, M101 which is not the official nomenclature...
