But the slowdown and timeouts might have to do with the WikiLeaks affair - I wasn't entirely joking higher up in this thread. The last few days people or organizations that don't like WikeLeaks have been executing massive denial of service attacks on the site - bombarding it with billions of page requests. This may well have a negative effect on other internet traffic.
I have made the change to Google Public Server as you suggested. I have noticed some improvement thus far and I was about to post progress as a complete success but I just now had a timeout. Still only one IS improvement. A little more time will tell, I hope.

I've been online for hours today and haven't experienced a single slowdown here, but just like yesterday several sites in the US were extremely slow to load.
Best wishes,
Hans

http://www.internettrafficreport.com has quite a low index at the moment, probably caused by wikileaks DOS attacks. Now that they've fled to Switzerland, amongst others, the European index has come down slightly too...
Cheers, Claude.

The detailed report for North America shows an unusually high number of servers that aren't responding at all. This might cause routing problems.
Best wishes,
Hans

Am I the only Lounger from North America having this problem? I feel so lucky!
It would be better if a few others chimed in and said, "yes, me too!"

I wish I could say me too, Bob! (NOT!)

But as I said earlier in the thread I haven't been having any problems with The Lounge or any other sites.

No problems here, either.

So far, we may have narrowed it down to the northeast US?
How about some posts from guys like DocWatson or Bob ( the other Bob ) or Pilgrim or others living in the NE corridor?

According to Details for North America /// Internet Traffic Report, the situation has improved these last few hours:
tr_namerica_p1.gif
In Australia, on the contrary, quality has gone down markedly. That must be my fault: :blackteeth:

I was looking at that North America detail earlier this morning, thinking about Bob's request for others in the Northeast to comment. When I looked at it, New Hampshire was a ZERO and the others up in the NY, New England, etc. area were all in the low-to-mid 90s. Down in Philadelphia and over into Ohio were 99. Seems just about impossible to draw any conclusions from the data. I dunno Bob, it certainly is perplexing.

These Internet Traffic reports sure don't appear to be very reliable. Just looked and it seems the whole of central and western Canada has disappeared from the Interweb, as have Nevada, New Hampshire, Texas and Wisconsin!

I don't know how these reports are assembled. If they monitor connection quality from one location only, the results would be very biased, of course.

Hans

Haven't been too active lately, but I've been here. And I do feel for you Viking, But I've had relatively solid connections for Eileen's Lounge for quite a while.
Although this past Friday evening around 9:30 pm Eastern Standard Time I did experience a 'slight' slowdown in my internet connection. Didn't last, but it was a slow-down.
For the record I'm in South Central Maine and am not (as far as I know) part of the Verizon network. I do connect via Oxford Networks in Maine - but where they connect through/with I'm not sure. Been having a very solid connection though...
Later..

Thanks, Bob.
Narrowing it down, MAYBE? When it gets down to my street, I'll really start worrying.
Might be wishful thinking but it may be improving a bit lately. Might be.

Seems that way, Hans.
All they have to do is cut the two bridges off and away we go! The Cape is really an island now, with the Cape Cod Canal slicing the Cape from the mainland. :sailing: :sailing:
