Why are there 2 links to the same page in 'email notifications' of new replies ?
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

One is to the beginning of thread, the other to the specific post (referred to in the notification) within the thread....

Yes, in a long thread the longer link will take you directly to the reply you've been notified of. The shorter link will always take you to the top of the thread.
