Post 30,000
In a thread I had contributed to, I happened to notice Post No. 30,000 today (by Bigaldoc ).
It would be interesting to see a Posts by Month chart with a trend line, but searching out each month's starting post number might take me a while !
Do the Admin folks already have this info?

Re: Post 30,000
By looking at my posts, the post number, and the date, a ballpark estimate for the Lounge to hit 40,000 posts is January 7, 2011. This uses a straight-line approximation, but as more folks learn the beauty of the Lounge, I would expect we might hit 40,000 by the end of this year.

That's as good a way as any! I'm surprised it is as straight as it is - I would expect some acceleration with growing numbers...Sundog wrote:By looking at my posts, the post number, and the date...

Re: Post 30,000
I see at the bottom of the Board Index page that total posts = 29126. Maybe I congratulated Bigaldoc too soon? Why the difference?

Re: Post 30,000
Some posts are automatically deleted - for example, those in the Test forum are auto-deleted after several days - and some are deliberately deleted by Admin if they are accidental duplicates, or full of lovely advertisements, or offensive, or....
The post (index) number and remaining post count won't be the same!

Re: Post 30,000
So the number at the bottom of the Board Index page is the "remaining post count?"Leif wrote:The post (index) number and remaining post count won't be the same!
And Bigaldoc still gets for "post (index) number" 30000?
If so, should the remaining post count text be changed from "Total posts" to "Stored posts" or something? Just wondering; not very important in the overall scheme of things...

Re: Post 30,000
Well, Al is certainly welcome to his but it's probably more trouble than it's worth to be more specific, otherwise folks will be asking if the Members count includes those who are banned, or who have registered but never come back, or who have only been active in the last 3 months....

All of these are very interesting statistics (at least to Admins), but I understand about letting more noses under the tent [ and smilies go here].Leif wrote:if the Members count includes those who are banned, or who have registered but never come back, or who have only been active in the last 3 months

Re: Post 30,000
Update, 14-Dec-2010: Using my post numbers and dates, from 13-Sep-2010 to 13-Dec-2010, Post No. 40,000 now appears to be due around 1-Feb-2011. (Least squares linear trend line.)

Admins, what thinkest thou about renaming this thread "Post 40,000", in light of the latest info?

Re: Post 30,000
Why would we rename the thread?
1) We're not there yet. And posting will undoubtedly slow down over the Christmas/New Year period, so your prediction might be on the optimistic side.
2) This thread was about post # 30,000. We can start a new one about post # 40,000 in due time.

Is that based on your general feeling, or data from some other board? I for one may see my post frequency increase, due to a week off over Christmas.HansV wrote:... posting will undoubtedly slow down over the Christmas/New Year period ...

Re: Post 30,000
Since I became a member of Woody's Lounge in 2002, the period from Christmas Day up to and including New Year's Day has always been one of the quietest in the year, with the number of posts per day down to about half the "normal" number. This was still true last year, when Woody's Lounge had already become the Windows Secrets Lounge, despite the enormous influx of new members in December.
I expect more or less the same here in Eileen's Lounge this year.

Re: Post 30,000
Sounds good. Stand by for a 40,000 update after the holidays. How does this sound: Around the end of the first week in January, resume the trend line slope as it is, from whatever post number is available then? In other words, don't add the holiday low numbers into the trend, just assume that from wherever we are at the end of the holidays, the trend will more or less revert to what we're currently seeing. Just my thoughts on the matter.

If we don't project anything, post # 40,000 will still arrive when the time has come...
