Strike-through tags

Post by StuartR »

The strikethrough tag gives me this. What did you expect?
be[s]a[/s]en
beaen

I was expecting the 'a' to be struck through but, as in your post, it's not. Or am I not seeing what you see?

By the way, how to I get the BBcode tags to appear, rather than be interpreted as tags?

Looks like this is a browser rendering problem because if I view Stuart's post in Edge (without logging in) it does display with a struck through 'a' but here on my work laptop using in Firefox 68.8.0esr (64-bit), I see no strike though, I see 'beaen'. I can't update FF on this machine, our IT people control FF updates.

When I get 'home from work' I'll review this on my home PC, also running FF but the latest non-esr version.

Looks OK to me in Firefox 76.0.1 on Windows 10, and in Firefox on Android too.
Best wishes,
Hans

Replace every [ with [t] and every ] with [/t]

Which looks like this in the editor

OK on this laptop running FF 68.8.0esr (64-bit):
    be[s]a[/s]en
displays as
    beaen
i.e. I can't see anything struck through

The nearest I can get is to add some spaces, before and within the [s] [/s]tags:
    be [s]a [/s]en
which displays as
    be a en

PS Might be worth culling these last few posts from this thread and moving them to either Test Area or to Lounge Matters.

I'm running FF 76.0.1 (64-bit) and it works fine:

Works fine here as well, Fx 76.0.1 (perhaps another code page etc. etc.)
"Escape codes" has bean discussed before; before they were added (by Hans, I think) I used something that wasn't rendered by the browser. (That can of course introduce some problem later on, but on the other hand, we see that some letters have changed in the oldest posts here, without users have been doing anything.)

In the case of BB "escape codes", or any code one doesn't know, one can do a simple quote of the post to see what was used (as long as it's not an "invisible" as I did). (One can also temp. disable BBCode in the post options, but it will also disable any quotation tags.)

(OT: Weird, if I open that link to an old thread, I'm logged in according to the online banner next to the user pic, but not as shown at the top of the page; it's non-HTPPS as well. Ah well.)

Just to add to the weirdness...

Sitting at my desk here in my 'home office' my primary device is a laptop, running FF 68.8.0esr and, as established above, the strike though is not behaving as expected. I can also use a remote desktop connection to reach my desktop PC that is on my desk in my work office. I'm using that remote connection to write this post. The remote/secondary device is running FF 68.7.0esr and it does render the strike though as expected

The strikethrough has been quarantined on some devices...

OK, more weirdness but it does help...

I'm back on my laptop again. The laptop is connected to a docking station that has two more monitors attached to it, i.e. my local set up has three monitors, the laptop's built in one, a 16:9 24" BENQ and an ancient 4:3 17" Acer. I usually leave FF on the laptop's monitor, it suits how I work with it. However, if I move FF off the laptop's monitor onto either of the other two screens, the strike through behaves as it should.

So this is not FF version problem, it's actually something to do with the way FF is rendered on the laptop's built in monitor. I'm not going to try it now but I wonder what will happen if I disconnect the laptop from the docking station?
