I see why you chose the date for The Lounge software update

Post by stuck »

On the 4th of May, may the force be with you.

I guess some of the skins will be a casualty of the upgrade but can you give any idea as to what will be lost?

We'll probably lose:
- The highslide feature that allows you to enlarge pictures.
- All skins except the default prosilver. We may be able to add some later.
- All portal customizations. We may be able to add some too.
- Custom BBCode tags; it shouldn't be difficult to restore those.
- Custom smileys; should be easy to restore too.

On the other hand, the Lounge should look better on smart phones...
Best wishes,
Hans

That's a pity but presumably there's an alternative, e.g.:

Looking forward to the next upgrade. Never had any issues with the current forum software but always nice to be current since it no doubt supports smarter devices of today's vintage like the smartphone you mentioned.

Good luck in the update process!

Bob

The new version does have better support for mobile devices, but much more important is that it has many fewer security deficiencies.
One possible cause of our recent lockout problems may be the very large number of bots trying various attacks against the lounge software.

Just out of curiosity Stuart, have there been any reports of the "lockout bug" since the move to the new server? I've not experienced any.

I haven't been notified of any, and my access has been reliable.

Of course this may just indicate that the bots haven't found the lounge at its new IP address yet.

I haven't experienced any lockouts since the move. The last weeks before I was locked out once or twice every day.
Best wishes,
Hans

Surely the forum software ["Powered by phpBB © 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group"] has been updated since 2007?

Eileen's Lounge currently runs on phpBB version 3.08 from 2010. Next week, it'll be updated to version 3.3.0 which was released early this year.
Best wishes,
Hans

The url in Ken's post causes a display problem on my phone.

It would be interesting to leave this post to see if the new mobile friendly version of phBB handles it differently.

Hello..

-.. New server … Software update .. wow .. all good stuff! :) – hope the update also goes well.
( I also have not yet experienced any of the previous problems log-in/out problems since the move. ( I am still not getting Email notifications since the move, but its no big problem for me. ) )
I hope all goes well with putting the Custom smileys back in , as they somehow always strike me as a nice characterising touch to the forum..

Whilst things are being adjusted / customised, would it be possible to reconsider the possibility of removing the line breaks in the code window in favour of a horizontal scroll bar? Just a suggestion, that’s all.
( Color in the code window, I would also personally prefer )

Alan

P.S: I am not sure if this is relevant or useful…

Until the upgrade is complete, we are unsure what we will be able to do, what board styles will be available, and what existing features will remain. Please be patient!

Can I again ask you not to format hyperlinks in a small font size - it really makes them difficult to read, particularly on mobile devices.
Ideally, use the URL Text format as this is much more user friendly.
(Your link would display as: phpBB • Code Window Horizontal Scroll Bar)

I think the phpbb site may be using the latest version of their software on their own site, which means it's probably displaying there as the new Lounge would. Maybe?

On my Galaxy S8, the URL in Ken's post resized properly for the small screen. Though the text was small, all elements of the page fit within the width and I didn't have to pinch or scroll the page side-to-side to read anything. When I tapped the image, it fit perfectly width-wise. If I rotated my phone to landscape, it adjusted the layout for landscape. The expanded image fit the new width, but I did have to scroll to see all of it--it didn't fit vertically, which would have been ideal responsiveness-wise.

So the site worked fine on my phone (although text size seems to be getting smaller as the years go by). Maybe this is a YMMV thing?

To be accurate, Ken's post displays correctly - but it affects the width of the display and therefore the way other posts are displayed.

This is how it displays on my phone (Android using Chrome).

Threads without a post like this all display to the full width of the screen.

Edit: it displays properly using Opera.

I beg all y'all's pardon. I thought you were talking about the display of the site link in Ken's post.

Now that I know what we're actually talking about--I have no issues viewing the Lounge's current site on my Galaxy using Firefox Focus (other than it's teensy-tiny). I also tried it with Chrome on my Galaxy and it was great. It truncated the link, but the link still worked.

I have a different Lounge theme than you. Maybe that has something to do with this?

Best, Kim
