SQL Error

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Well I got another one around 11:35 a.m. EST (Toronto/New Yotk time).
I can't find my earlier posting of 2 to 6 months ago.

I had clicked on "View Your Posts" to add a couple of images to two earlier threads of mine when this popped up:-
SQLError.png
At the/this time I am using free WiFi in the Yorkville branch of the Toronto Public Library and have been using Eileen's Lounge for about 40 minutes quite happily.
(You know what i mean: I'm STILL happy .....)

You probably meant SQL Error - Duplicate Entry.

What were you doing at the time? Clicking the link to a thread? Or submitting a reply? Or starting a new thread? Or something else (please specify)?
Best wishes,
Hans

My guess is that Chris was reading a library book.

Thanks Hans. I have saved that earlier thread and this thread for future reference.

At the time the error (2 days ago?) occurred I was clicking on "View Your Posts", but I can't remember what the page (on which i was) was doing.
Almost certainly reading a posting and thinking "Ooooh! I know that i was involved in some discussion on that, so I'll go find the thread in which i was active" (clicks on "View Your posts" and gets error)

I will clean up the two threads (here) as a checklist for next time, and next time it happens make immediate notes on the circumstances.
This doesn't happen very often, and when it does it's not a disaster.

Question (to all): Am I the only one for which this error occurs, or do others see it from time to time?

It has happened again, just now 10:56 EST(Toronto)

I went to Eileen's Lounge.
Typed in my user name, password, saved five seconds by clicking "Return to Previous page".
Clicked on "View Your Posts" on the LHS of the screen (was going to search for "Failures In Advertising".
BAM! SQL error (attached)

I took the PrtScr snapshot then Alt-Tabbed back into Eileen's Lounge clicked the Left-Arrow icon (top-left corner of the PrtScr image) to return to the previous page.
Clicked again on "View Your Posts" on the LHS of the screen and reaped success.

Then I typed this up; so much for saving Five Seconds.

can i get a refund?

I am signed on at one of my customary Free WiFi spots (Northam building) and will be here for about another hour if you need me to experiment

Cheerily,
Cheers
Chris

I think your problem is
saved five seconds by clicking "Return to Previous page"
Do you ALWAYS do this when logging in?

What happens if you do NOT save 5 seconds after logging in, but wait until the Lounge loads the page itself?
Best wishes,
Hans

Hi Hans and DaveA:
No, I do not always do this when logging in.

I discovered this "trick" (on the login page) only about two months ago, although I have been using "Return to previous page" after submitting posts for years in this new incarnation.

I note your suggestion, though, and shall run for another one or two months without using "return to previous page" in any page at all. Including the "LogIn" page and including the results of the "Submit" page.

To All: Anyone else experiencing this errror? (Go on! Be Daring!)
I ask because I am about to rebuild my system, again, and wonder if I have a grain of sand in my system somewhere.

As far as I can tell this is a hiccough; neither I nor Eileen's lounge seem to suffer any long-term effects.
I mean, The Lounge doesn't crash, so whatever code is detecting the error appears to be nipping something in the bud before it gets out of hand.
Which is good.

Cheers

OK.
No SQL errors since then.
Can I Please go back to clicking on that "return to previous page" and the results of the "Submit" page again? :please:
(That is, "resume my normal impatient habits")

Back in November I quit the "return to previous page" and "View your submitted message" lark and twiddled, instead, my thumbs.

Late last week I began using these save-me-5-seconds tricks.

Here I am, Deer Park Library, 11:15 a.m. EST.
I log in to Eileen's Lounge. and choose "View Your Posts" because I want to reclaim that "errors looping through sentences" post from a week or so ago.
(Note the URL egosearch)

Same deal!

Questions:-
(1) Is anyone else getting this error within the past six months?
(2) Is it time for me to rebuild my Win7HP/FireFox38.0.1 system?
(3) When will summer be here?

(signed) "Oh what the heck!" of Toronto.
P.S. Any other experimentation will be considered.
I mean, i could arrange to repeat the exercise, same time, same library, five days a week if it is thought that that might help.

Because if I am the only one getting the SQL error, then I suspect that the cause lies in my unique installation; probably that over the past two(?) years some crud has gotten stuck in a gear cog, or similar.

A rebuild of the laptop software would eradicate that as a probably cause, right?

I can be in here tomorrow, same time, and am considering repeating the exercise just to see if it might be a reproducible error.

Out of interest, Oh Great Admin, is the Lounge software developer able to offer any hints as to possible causes of this message?

P.S. Thanks for the tip re "spring" but I've forgotten what that looks like

Using "return to previous page" might well cause the error.

I don't think rebuilding your system would have any effect on the occurrence of this error.

Hans

Well.
OK.
But if no-one else is getting this error except me, then I'm forced to the conclusion that it was a gross mistake on the part of the Admin Staff to let Rudi at the sauce  code.

Well, a year has passed, and while I haven't kept written records, I estimate that I've had the same style error about once a month.
It arrives immediately after I have clicked on "View Your Posts", and is resolved by an immediate refresh of the screen, using the F5 function key.
Since no-one else has reported it, perhaps it is due to a local condition, such as "My laptop" or "my library's WiFi connection".
