On the left of the forum are circular icons, red, blue, and some of the red ones are scrolling.
Might we please have a mini-tutorial on what they mean?
(In your Copious Free Time(TM), of course ...)

Yes, if the thread icon is red, it contains posts that you haven't read yet. Clicking the tiny orange page icon to the right of the circle will take you to the first unread post.

If the lines in the thread icon are scrolling, it's a "busy" thread with at least 25 posts.

The appearance of these icons depends on the skin you are using, but I think every skin has a key at the bottom of the board index showing what they mean.

Here is a screenshot from the subsilver2 skin that I am using.
