Thanks, Al, I think that happened a couple of times and I had NO idea what was going on. Now I know to look for it. I see it as useful, once one realises WTH is going on!

If you're composing a post and (unknown to you) someone else adds a new post to the thread, when you hit the Preview button you may see this screen to tip you off that someone has made a new post while you were composing:

You can of course, view the post that's been made to see if there is a conflict and then, if appropriate, continue with your preview and/or post.
I love that feature, Al! In fact, I just composed a post in a busy thread where I was warned 3 times that a new post had been made before I was 'cleared for takeoff' and able to post. But I'm glad I had a preview of what had already been said before I made my contribution.

I thought of it as a nice feature, above, but I guess that there are two sides of everything. I don't know what the down side would be of this? People can't say any more that they didn't see a reply before they posted? Unless they are a sharpshooter and always use the Quick Reply?

I like the way that, if you read page one of a two page thread, it does not mark the second page as read.

It sounds logical, but IPBoard3 marks all pages as read.

And it's good being able to see who last replied to a thread.

Boy is that a link to the past! I was a 1stReader beta tester authored by Mark (Sparky) Herring of Tennessee. Sparky needed a Canadian beta tester for 1st Reader who was hooked into CRS. He had a couple of other Canadian testers who fell by the wayside. I was a member of the CRS BBS and provided Sparky with the link. I can't begin to tell you how I used to hide my Bell long distance bills from the better half. Those hundreds of LD calls per month to Tennessee would surely have raised the eyebrows of a trusting spouse!! :groovin: Initially all on a 300 baud line until I bought a new modem for about $800 providing 1200 baud service.
Now ask me about my very first hard drive. Trustor10 - 10MB... cost $1,595.00!!! :hairout:

Bob

Yeah. She told me :yep: :yadda:   :clapping: :groovin:
I liked 1st Reader. I could set up everything offline, including the password, then place the first LD call to a BBS, say Blue Flame in Dallas, sign on, and turn 1stReader loose, already pre-configured to d/l the first packet. No waiting. KaZoom!
Where's Sparky now? Anyone know? I'm still in touch with a friend in Prince Rupert I met through 1stReader packets back in 1993?.

It may be me (and it may be that someone has already mentioned this) but I love the way the Unread Posts markers seem to do what they are meant to do in this forum!

Agreed, and now Mike has kindly made them a sensible size!

And I like the two-minute window in which you can change 'kingly' to 'kindly' (above)...

I love the way, when you EDIT a post with an attachment, you don't have to re-attach the file.

In the old Woody's Lounge, threads became very slow if they had more than 50 or so posts, so we had to lock them. Our current software doesn't slow down as much, so we can leave threads open. Whether this is always an improvement is another question...
Best wishes,
Hans

Don't blame me! The thread got long because of the hijackers. It started off as a small catalogue of novel features for oldies ... :surrender: (I can't find "GrumpyOldMan:)
