Program Files is not accepting new folder

Post by ABabeNChrist »

My "Program Files " will not let me load or drop in a new folder. I even tried to right click within Program Files to insert a new folder, with no such luck, any thoughts what maybe causing this.

Are you getting any kind of error message, or is just not happening?

When you right click, what are you expecting to see that you can't?

With 'Program Files' selected, can you click on:
File > New > Folder...
?

Are you logged in as a restricted user? You may need administrator permissions to do this.

The last I heard, the "Program Files" folder was a system folder and was to be used by the "installer" programs only.

But I have been know to be wrong many times before this.

Dave, that is true for Windows Vista and Windows 7, but this thread is in the Windows XP forum. The Program Files folder is not protected in XP, at least not by default.
Best wishes,
Hans

Add one more time to that list.

I just dropped a data folder from another partition into Program Files on my C drive and had zero issues. I'd suspect permissions or something similar is the cause.

I thank everyone for their comments, it helped too trouble shoot the problem.
I was assisting a friend with this problem on their computer and it does turn out that he was using the guest sign in and not administrator. Problem solved.
