Windows Update, let me choose

Post by curious »

I don't see this option in Settings, Windows Updates. I have always waited some weeks before downloading.
Is this not available in Win 11? Thank you

In Windows 10 and Windows 11, you can pause updates for up to 5 weeks:

I tried that but it 'said': extend for 1week. And, Updated paused until Sunday 1/1/23. Would you say I was ok with this? My thanks.

You have now paused updates for 4 weeks, until New Year's Day. You can extend for 1 week more, until 1/8/23.
Updates will then resume automatically, but you can pause them again afterwards.
Best wishes,
Hans

If you have Windows 11 Pro, you have several group policy settings available to control Windows Updates. There is even a free third party program called WuMgr to control Windows Updates. You can see how to use WuMgr at A guide to using WuMgr at the askwoody.com site. The article says it is for Windows 10 but will work the same way for Windows 11.

NOTE: IMO, all this is overkill for most users. Most users should just let Windows Update do its thing. If you want to temporarily avoid updates use the technique HansV described above.
