I stayed in a B&B in Ravenscar in 2004. The host drove me to the Hayburn Wyke Inn for dinner; I walked back from there to Ravenscar along the disused railway line in increasing darkness. Near the end I just hoped I wouldn't step into a hole or something unpleasant, I couldn't see a thing. The street lights of Ravenscar were a very welcome sight...
Best wishes,
Hans

I've not walked that line towards Ravenscar, but I have done the bit south of Hayburn Wyke towards Cloughton. Even in daylight the tree cover made it gloomy so I can imagine your difficulties. Just be thankful there wasn't a sea fret to add to the lack of visibility. Ravenscar is infamous for it's local micro climate that generates pea-soupy fog.

Hans, you have a habit of going out for dinner then walking home, allied with train rides late at night.
You are starting to sound like Bill Bryson!
Cheers

You have some fabulous views on your outings Ken. I shall have to visit Yorkshire again soon.

If you do, I hope you are more observant than my wife and I were yesterday.

It was only when we got back to the Nat. trust visitor centre, that we had previously called in at before we set off that we saw the notices about the seals and realised that had we taken a short detour from the path we walked, we could have had a really good view of them. We were so busy admiring the wider views across the bay that we didn't know that some of the rocks 600ft below us were in fact seals. As a very heavy crop of a wider view shows.

No matter, we'll just have to go back again another day.
