Disable BEEPs in BIOS

Post by jmt356 »

When I boot up my HP laptop, if I interrupt startup and enter BIOS, I am taken to HP Computer Setup, where I can configure my computer's security settings, UEFI drivers, boot order, built-in devices and other settings. HP Computer Setup (which I believe is a BIOS interface) beeps quite loudly when I make certain settings. Is it possible to put BIOS on silent mode? I went through the various tabs (Main | Security | Advanced | UEFI Drivers) but was unable to find the relevant setting.
Regards,

JMT

Does this work? Go to Advanced, then Boot options, and clear the check box "Audio Alerts during boot"
Best wishes,

That stopped the beeping when I start up the laptop, but there is still a loud beep within BIOS every time it prompts me to save changes, exit, etc. Is there a global silent mode, rather than just silent mode during boot?

You could always disconnect the beeping device (probably a two-pin connector on the motherboard) and avoid beepage under all circumstances?

I thought of suggesting that, but doesn't the BIOS beep an error code if there's a problem?

Have you tried HP's support page?

Indeed! My suggestion could have downsides...

There is always a downside when trying to block some hardware action!

It's okay; at least with Hans' suggestion, I disabled the loud beep when I boot up. But I can't understand why HP / BIOS would program such a loud and annoying beep into their software when I try to make a change, save a change or exit.
