Hmmm... see the less-than-enthusiastic reviews on SCORDERS USB Flash Drive (1 TB) High-Speed Data Storage Thumb Stick
Best wishes,
Hans

One of the few positive reviews:
These are faboulous, unobtrusive light sources that easily light the way in a dark house. Simple to install.
I have been badly bitten in the past by mail order USB sticks which have been overclocked. I'll only get them from a reputable source now.

The fact that a terabyte can be stored in such a small form factor is what blows my mind. I can remember in the not so very distant past when that much storage space would have required a rather large cubic space and a great deal of air conditioning.

It's what's called "progress", Bob!
Although in the specific instance of this 1TB drive, it's called "regress"...

A friend of mine sent off for (what he now admits was the cheapest price offer) and it didn't work. In frustration (he couldn't be bothered to send it back) he opened it to find nothing inside.
Caveat emptor, eh?

That's what several of the reviews on Amazon report too.

And scammers have been known to sell a small flash drive (say 16 MB) together with firmware that makes it look like a much larger-capacity drive. The flash drive only stores the last 16 MB that you copied to it...
Best wishes,
Hans

I would never buy something similar from the net outside of Sweden. (In Sweden, and some other countries, we not only pay higher prices than often found on the net, it also includes a private copying levy on these things, not only CDs/DVDs. But in cases like these it might be worth it.)

BBC Fake Britain, Hairdryers, Hard Drives [10 minutes in] (USB drives follows)

But I agree with Bob, even if 1 TB isn't that much today; I remember when 8 GB was enough for ~400 people.

I was there when 2MB of a CDC 3300 removable 8MB drive was enough for Whyalla Steelworks.
What a joy it must have been for them to run The Payroll from disk instead of punched cards via 2400' tape.
Cheers

(I knew that if I write something similar, it will take off in another direction.)
Well, a couple of years earlier those 20 MB (8 GB/400) was enough for a small office; and before that another place used 8" floppies, lord knows how much they could store.

But that's what you get if born before the BC/AD shift, Chris; bragging rights.
BTW, do you remember the Proto-Indo-European language?

I see that Argus and John are comfortable seated, so with you on board we are all assembled.
***I*** can remember a time when not one of the four of us had heard about The Four Yorkshiremen, and now if you ask the young people, they've never heard of them either!

When I first started working, it was in the word processing department of law firms. They paid the best and I was treated like a goddess who could work wondrous magic. I actually got one firm I worked for to print "Technology Goddess" on my business cards, but that's another story.

I specialized in using Vydec in the beginning - a proprietary word processor. It was a great hulking monstrous thing with built-in keyboard, monitor, printer, and two floppy drives which took 8" floppies. Single sided discs had a capacity of 30 pages and double-sided discs gave you another 30.

As I recall, the monitor was white or very light grey on a dark grey background and was fairly easy on the eyes. It had an automation feature intended to make filling in forms easier, but of course it could be tweaked to do simple animated graphics (like creating a Christmas tree and popping in lights, the star, and packages one at a time, and all with the ascii character set). It could also be used to make the printer print to the beat of The William Tell Overture (the Lone Ranger's theme part). That was pretty cool.

I was offered this today.

A terabyte in a solid state drive for less than 100USD. And I thought the data density in that thumb drive was mind blowing. :hairout:

It's amazing how convincing the printed word has become nowadays! All we need is for it to be matched reliably in silicon...
