Suppose a HDD were removed from a laptop and attached to it via a USB SATA cable. In BIOS, the laptop was set to be able to boot up to a USB. Would the laptop be bootable? Would it function in the same way as if the HDD were installed within the laptop?
I tried this today but the laptop was not bootable.

Theoretically, it can be booted. I'm not sure it's an issue of Windows settings or the USB port. I'd like to know more details. Connected to the 3.0 or 2.0 port? How do you boot the system, set the first boot in the BIOS or press the quick boot to select your HDD when the motherboard self-test?
