How to determine type of video?

Post by DaveA »

The wife was give an set of PPTX files and there are embedded videos and they will not function on her Windows 7 machines.
But will on my Windows 7 and 10 machines.
The audio works on my Windows 8.1 but not the visual.

How can one determine what type of file is embedded?

EDIT, changed PPT to PPTX

Your wife could install the K-Lite Codec Pack. It contains codecs for almost all media types.
Best wishes,
Hans

Update:
The laptop have Windows 7 Home, with Office 2013 Home and Student, and PPT Viewer 2007
The desktop is a Windows 7 Pro, with Office 2003 Home and Student.
We will give K-Lite a try

I second K-Lite. We have this issue a lot at work with people having to do pressies. We always ensure that the codec pack is installed to enable the medial in pressies to work without problems.

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.

K-Lite has take care of the Windows 8.1 issue.

We get an error about missing devise in the registry when install K-Lite.

We have had other issues lately with this machine, so we are in the process of backing up and then going to do restore to Factory Settings.
This machine was bought on the first day that Windows 7 was on the market, and has never been rebuilt.

That was a waste of time.
The Recover failed and wiped the drive clean.
Sony system disks out of stock, should be shipping to US on the 23 of March, if Sony gets their shipment on the 22nd.
Mean while, system dead in the water.
