Bubbles.ppt won't work in Powerpoint 2010
I know that for some reason there are many versions of games called Bubbles. The one I am referring to is Bubbles.ppt. I tried to attach a printscreen but the file was too big.
I played this game for many years in Microsoft 2007. I now have Microsoft 2010. It opens in Microsoft 2010, but the moment I try to play it, it comes up with the following message
Some controls in this presentation can't be activated. They may not be registered on this computer.
and then it opens and when I try to start playing, it closes.
Is there an explanation for this and/or a setting that will make it change?
Thank you for any help.

If it's the one that I found, the slide contains a Shockwave Flash object.
Try the following:
- Open the presentation in PowerPoint.
- Press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor.
- Select Tools > References...
- Which references are checked? Do you see one starting with MISSING?

Hi Diana,
You'll have to install Adobe Flash Player. This should make the Shockwave Flash control available.

Re: Bubbles.ppt won't work in Powerpoint 2010
Thank you for your reply, Hans. I have 3 problems:
1. Is MacaFee essential for Adobe Flash Player? Or can I uninstall it?
It installed along with Adobe Flash Player with no option not to install it that I could see? I have AVG (not the free copy) via my service provider and I pay for hat every month. I don't know if MacaFee is compatable and I will be receiving support for a problem with AVG and I don't want the company to be incorrectly blaming it on MacaFee.
2. Adobe Flash Player installed another program too but it isn't listed in Control Panel - something beginning with an L, I think and ending in the word Security. Is that necessary for Adobe Flash Player? How can I uninstall that if it isn't showing in Control Pane and I can't remember its name.
3. I installed Adoboe and made Bubbles.ppt's folder a trusted location. It wouldn't let me make the file a trusted location. I tried to enable Adobe Flash Player in case it wasn't installed, but I found the instructions/lack thereof, confusing and I didn't manage to do that. I rebooted twice and it is still not working and the Alt-F11/Tools/Reference still has all those same files ticked.

1. No, you don't need McAfee. You can uninstall it from the Programs and Features control panel.
2. No, it isn't necessary.
In the future, please select the Custom option when installing software. You should then get the option not to install all that extra software.
3. Is Shockwave Flash still listed as MISSING?

I didn't s see a Custom option, but perhaps it was there and I missed seeing it.
Yes, Shockwave Flash is still listed as MISSING. There is a box below it with:
Private Sub ShockwaveFlash1_OnReadyStateChange(ByVal newState As Long)
End Sub
Will code help there?

That code doesn't do anything, and it can be removed. But as long as the reference is missing, the game won't run.
Try the following:
- In the Visual Basic Editor, select Tools > References...
- Clear the check box for the missing reference to Shockwave Flash.
- Click OK.
- Select Tools > References... again.
- Scroll down the list to find Shockwave Flash. It will either be directly below the references whose check box have been ticked, or it will be listed way down among the other references beginning with an s.
- If found, tick its check box.
- Click OK.

Re: Bubbles.ppt won't work in Powerpoint 2010
It wouldn't let me clear the checkbox. It came up with the message:
Can't remove control or reference; in use
I then deleted the code "heading" and "ending" also clicked on OK and went back in. It still wouldn't let me do that.
Is it possible that it Shockwave is disabled? If so, how do I enable it?

I don't think Shockwave Flash is disabled.
Try the following:
- Close the presentation.
- Hold down the (left) Shift key while opening the presentation. You can release Shift when the presentation has been opened.
- Activate the Visual Basic Editor and try to clear the check box for Shockwave Flash as described above.

I give up. Can you download the presentation again? Perhaps it'll work then...

Diana (and Hans),
Am I wrong or is Shockwave a separate install? Try going to https://www.adobe.com/products/shockwaveplayer.html
There's a link on that page to "Determine the Shockwave Player version you installed, if any." See if it's actually installed. Clicking the button is a little confusing. If you don't have it, it will immediately try to download (well, it did for me).

"Hmm. What does this button do?" Said everyone before being ejected from a car, blown up, or deleting all the data from the mainframe.

As far as I know, Adobe Flash Player installs the Shockwave control. I have Adobe Flash Player but not Shockwave Player as a separate install, and the game ran without problems for me.
Best wishes,
Hans
