Keyboard and Language

Post by RonH »

I use a Norwegian keyboard layout with languages Norwegian (Bokmål) and English UK. Every time I install Windows monthly security updates the language reverts to Norwegian with English US and this alters the keyboard setup ... hence typing incorrectly.

How can I maintain English UK language

Snip of my language & keyboard settings ...

My Keyboard is Norwegian.
It seems that English US is always the fallback ... can't remove

Here's a pic of my region and language settings from a Windows 11 Pro PC. Can you screenshot yours?

Hei Joe,
This screen shot is additional to what I posted above ... maybe helpful? Not that my keyboard is Norwegian layout which enables me to use both languages ... Norwegian has 3 additional letters in the alphabet.
Cheers Ron

I saw a post that suggested trying to click on "Add a language", adding US English, and re-boot. Then remove US English and re-boot again. Then back to the "Language and Region" page in Settings, scroll down, and click on "Administrative Language settings". That will open a Control Panel pane where make sure your locale is correct and then you click on "Copy settings". Re-boot once more and cross your fingers. 🤞😁

Just got a reply on Microsoft forum ... complex, options. I should have searched more
This is the MS link if anyone's interested:

Guess what ... I'm going to put up with this issue  since I'm likely to introduce more operating problems.

Meanwhile, today, on my Win 11 Pro laptop...

The language switcher icon appeared in my Sytem Tray, so I looked at my language settings. They said the Windows Display language was English US but I know I'd set it to English UK. I changed it back to English UK. Windows told me it would have to sign me out to make the change. I OK'd that and signed back in again. Magic, the language switcher has disappeared again.

I can't see any updates having been applied since I last used this machine about 24 hours ago. So it looks like this is another Windows WeirdnessTM
